The traffic spikes come from people visiting the site randomly right after I post. The blog must appear on a "recently updated" list somewhere.
What's up with the union-hating? Matt over at blogging.la is getting hammered for suggesting that workers at a ritzy LA movie theater should unionize because they can't afford to see the movies at the theater at which they work.

My favorite comment: "[U]nionizing theatre workers is not the answer. These people aren't abused - they know what job they're getting when they sign up." Huh. Guess only people who are abused at work deserve better wages.

Los Angeles is the least-affordable city in relation to home sale prices, incomes and interest rates. Just like New York and San Francisco, but with none of the perks!
No Macs for me until this is sorted out. But why is hardware DRM necessary for iFlicks? I thought everyone jumped off that bandwagon when Palladium got a bad rap?

Did he really say that?

"Now, a personal savings account would be a part of a Social Security retirement system. It would be a part of what you would have to retire when you reach retirement age. As you -- as I mentioned to you earlier, we're going to redesign the current system. If you've retired, you don't have anything to worry about -- third time I've said that. (Laughter.) I'll probably say it three more times. See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda. (Applause.)"

While the rest of the country celebrates Bike to Work Week, the car-happy city of Los Angeles gets one measily day this Thursday. Hey, maybe I'll actually see another bike commuter on my ride home!

A Los Angeles group puts up viewing platforms outside of gated communities so that people can see into them.

"Like the historic viewing platforms at the Berlin Wall that allowed Westerners to see into East Berlin, the Heavy Trash viewing platforms call attention to the walls of gated communities and provide visual access to parts of the city that have been cut off from the public domain."
